Dorothea Lange - My Heroes (cont.)

"Dorothea Lange's images had a profound influence on the development of documentary photography in the United States.

Lange's work for the RA and FSA brought the plight of the poor and forgotten, particularly sharecroppers, displaced farm families, and migrant workers, to the publics attention. Distributed free of charge to newspapers across the country, her poignant images quickly became icons of the era.

Lange's best known image is titled "Migrant Mother." The woman in the photo is Florence Owens Thompson but Lange apparently never knew her name."

During an interview in 1960 Lange spoke about the experience.

"I saw and approached the hungry and desperate mother, as if drawn by a magnet. I do not remember how I explained my presence or my camera to her, but I do remember she asked me no questions. I made five exposures, working closer and closer from the same direction. I did not ask her name or her history. She told me her age, that she was thirty-two. She said that they had been living on frozen vegetables from the surrounding fields, and birds that the children killed. She had just sold the tires from her car to buy food. There she sat in that lean-to tent with her children huddled around her, and seemed to know that my pictures might help her, and so she helped me. There was a sort of equality about it."

Ultra Products Kicks It Up A Notch!

Ultra Products believes you can't be too thin, too rich or have too much power for your computer. Thus the unveiling at CES, (Consumer Electronics Showcase), of their 2000 Watt ATX Power Supply.

Aimed squarely at the high end gaming culture, this Power Supply will not only keep the most extreme workstation from suffering brown-outs but will simultaneously power several household appliances. The 2000W X3 is modular, and feeds up to 1800W on the 12V connection alone.

With all that power, you're going to be able to easily support quad core, quad GPU cards, or a gigantic RAID system to store all your digital media. While there is no word on exact release dates or prices, rumor has it that Ultra's X3 should be available sometime this quarter for "less than $499."

Check Out Brooks Ayola!

Ran across this blog while browsing. The story that linked me to Brooks Blog can be found on imaginginfo.com, a great site to bookmark and check into frequently. Brooks Blog not only has some very cool images but he tells you what equipment he used to produce each image and how it was shot. Some back story info is also available on many of the images. Interesting images, the "how to" info and interesting back stories, what's not to like? The best part is that he's promoting himself and we're enjoying the experience. A win-win. Thanks Brooks.
